Makhbaras: Throwing incense diffusers
Makhbaras: Throwing incense diffusers
This 2-session, Level 2 wheel throwing workshop focuses on wheel throwing and hand-construction techniques to create a Mabkhara, a traditional Middle Eastern incense burner. Taught by Eman Yasin of Habla Pottery
Learn how to throw two matching bowl forms on the wheel, conjoin them to create a closed vessel, attach a handle, and decorate their piece. They will leave with a finished, glazed Mabkhara ready for pickup after firing.
Lighting bakhoor in a Makhbara is a cherished tradition in most MENA households, the ultimate gesture of hospitality, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for guests. The fragrant smoke purifies the home, bringing a sense of peace, comfort, and positive energy to the space.
