Mabkharas [Wheel / Level 2]

This 2-session, Level 2 workshop focuses on wheel throwing and hand-construction techniques to create a Mabkhara, a traditional Middle Eastern incense burner. Taught by Eman Yasin of Habla Pottery. 

Learn how to throw two matching bowl forms on the wheel, conjoin them to create a closed vessel, attach a handle, and decorate your piece. You will leave with a finished, glazed Mabkhara ready for pickup after firing.

Lighting bakhoor in a Mabkhara is a cherished tradition in most MENA households, the ultimate gesture of hospitality, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for guests. The fragrant smoke purifies the home, bringing a sense of peace, comfort, and positive energy to the space.

The Info:

• This is a 2-session workshop. Classes are one week apart on Fri. 9/18 & Fri. 9/25
• Each class is 2 hours
• Level 2: Some throwing experience required. Must be comfortable centering and pulling walls. 
• Ages 18+
