Neriage

In this two-day beginners workshop (2 hrs. per day) students will learn the Japanese marbling technique known as neriage, where contrasting clays are layered, sliced and reformed to create unique swirling patterns.

Dane Nakama will teach you the technical process and the cultural resonances of this centuries-old method. This is a great technique to add to your pottery toolbelt!

Dane Hiʻipoi Nakama is a Japanese-Uchinanchu ceramicist and educator from Oʻahu. Their art often explores themes of cultural hybridity, settler colonialism, indigeneity, and ancestral knowledge. Dane is currently teaching at POT and UCLA.
