Linocut Print & Protest

Linocut Print & Protest

This workshop is part of POT's mission to preserve culture through craft

Print & Protest is a one-day linocut workshop and teach-in centered on the Iranian children's book, The Little Black Fish. Linocut is a printmaking technique where an image is carved into linoleum, inked, and then pressed onto paper to create bold prints.

Written by Samad Behrangi, The Little Black Fish is a political allegory about knowledge seeking, collective movements, and armed struggle. Learn Behrangi's history, hear the inspiring story of one little fish, and create your own mixed media linocut print inspired by the illustrations of Farshid Mesghali.

Mariam M. F. Tabatabaee is an educator and multidisciplinary artist based in Los Angeles, CA on stolen Tongva land. As an Iranian-Filipina, her approach is heavily influenced by both her position between multiple identities, her cats, and the ways visual imagery and meanings are transmitted across time and culture.
