Persian Calligraphy
Persian Calligraphy
This workshop is part of POT's mission to preserve culture through the arts.
Persian Calligraphy is a 3-hour workshop led by Moshir Safavi. You do NOT need to know how to read, write or speak Farsi to take this class. The lettering will be taught from an aesthetic standpoint.
Students will be introduced to basic Farsi/Arabic calligraphy methods in modern calligraphic style using markers and ink. This includes learning how to connect letters to write words and sentences in calligraphic format, and you will finish a piece to take home.
Persian Calligraphy (خوشنویسی ایرانی) is one of the most revered arts throughout Persian/Iranian history. The history of calligraphy in Iran dates back to the pre-Islamic era when Zoroastrian-influenced Persian culture held beautiful writings in high esteem. It is an essential part of Iranian arts and deeply influences cultural aesthetics.
